THIS Sat, Sept 9th, The BPRS & Sunshine Nights @ Sidewalk Cafe!

My band, The Brooklyn Players Reading Society, will unite once again with Americana folk rock group Sunshine Nights THIS Saturday, Sept 9th at SideWalk Cafe. Sunshine hits the stage at 9 pm, The BPRS at 10. No cover, $5 suggested donation, DJ after.

I am pissed about Trump’s DACA decision and all this blatant white supremacy and hurricanes and climate change, and when I get mad, I write and make music. I’m so looking forward to playing for y’all this weekend, to let out some of what’s churning inside of me and to also spread out some good, creative vibes. Also, this will be the last BPRS show for awhile, so we sincerely hope to see you there!

“We Can Find the Way” – New Song from The BPRS!

I’m so pissed that our Representatives voted to screw us all over, to take away our access to affordable maternity care, mental health services, prescription drugs and oh so much more, all so that they and their rich friends can get a tax break. These are the people who turned their backs on us – make sure you remember their names in 2018.

Yes, I understand that the AHCA bill has many steps and changes to go through before it takes effect, I get that the Senate is “going to fix it,” but none of this changes the fact that these assholes let it pass through the House. The greed and selfishness is SO SICKENING.

But more and more of us are paying attention now. More and more of us are fed up. And more and more of us are taking action. I actually wrote the words to this new BPRS song during the Obama years and sadly, the angry parts about our capitalist society run amuck are even truer than ever. But you know what? So are the hopeful parts. We’ve got this, ya’ll. Don’t let your anger/sadness/fear negatively affect your day-to-day. Smile at people. Hold doors for them. Tell your friends and family you love them. Remind yourself of all the things you’re grateful for. Spreading love and building community are two powerful ways to resist. Stay strong.

“One Day” Live Music Video!

So psyched to share The Brooklyn Players Reading Society’s first video, made especially for NPR’S Tiny Desk Contest. Wish us luck!

HUGE thanks to videographer Aviva Buivid (of #100Daysofgoodstuff), video editor Taj Campan (of TajBeats), volunteer babysitter Katie Gallof, and Webster Hall.

The Little Guy Inside (Demo EP)

bexndavemasksIt is with GREAT excitement that I share with you The Brooklyn Players Reading Society’s first ever recordings, The Little Guy Inside (Demo EP)! This project is completely and proudly DIY – Dave and I wrote, performed, recorded and mixed all of the songs, with the exception of “What Obligation” featuring a poem by the incredibly talented P.K. Harmon. Our Band Camp page also features original artwork by the ingenious Letisia Cruz, and a new logo by graphic-design guru Aviva Buivid.

Some of you may have seen us perform with a full band in the past, but due to our pianist moving out of NYC and conflicting schedules with our other bandmates, Dave and I decided to turn BPRS into a duo. We spent the past year and a half rewriting the songs with him on drums and me on organ and vox, and found that this experience really enabled us to get to the heart of our songs. We hope you like them, and if you haven’t already, please say hi to us on Facebook.
Stay tuned for an EP release show, and happy summer!
